from Mother Jones --
Is there a connection between same-sex marriage and mass murder?
That's what one religious right outfit is suggesting. This week, Morality in Media disseminated a statement noting that the Iowa Supreme Court had legalized gay marriage on the same day that a gunman murdered 13 people in Binghamton, New York. The headline on the release: "Connecting the Dots: The Line Between Gay Marriage and Mass Murders." The group's president, Bob Peters, notes that the "underlying problem is that increasingly we live in a 'post-Christian' society, where Judeo-Christian faith and values have less and less influence." And, he continues, this "secular value system is also reflected in the 'sexual revolution,' which is the driving force behind the push for 'gay marriage. '"Here's the punch line: It most certainly is not my intention to blame the epidemic of mass murders on the gay rights movement! It is my intention to point out that the success of the sexual revolution is inversely proportional to the decline in morality; and it is the decline of morality (and the faith that so often under girds it) that is the underlying cause of our modern day epidemic of mass murders. That is, he's not saying that gay rights activists are directly responsible for the murderous actions of gun-toting madmen. But Peters maintains that those who champion gay rights are undermining the moral fiber of society and that this assault on traditional values creates an environment in which killing sprees can more easily occur. These acts of gun violence, he insists, are the poisoned fruit of the push for gay marriage

from Pravda, Ukraine --
Leonid Kadeniuk, independent Ukraine’s first astronaut and participant in NASA’s Columbia in 1997 as part of the international mission STS-87 has gone on record stating that he believes UFOs are real and of alien origin in an interview with the well-known newspaper Pravda Ukraine. Although he has not seen a UFO himself, he recalls that during his time as a fighter pilot in Moscow in the days of the old USSR he had met other pilots who had encountered them while on missions. He also mentions that he was warned by his superiors and trainers that in the event of seeing a UFO while flying he should avoid any contact and not attempt to approach them.

He has studied the topic and has come to the conclusion that UFOs use electro-magnetic and gravitational forces to fly. He argues that the current human method of travelling into space has run its course and it is time we too attempt to develop methods using these forces for space travel. He believes in this manner we will conquer space’s mind-boggling distances.

from BBC --

Within three decades, as many people in Britain will be involved in alternative spiritual practices as in traditional churchgoing, according to a new book by Lancaster University authors. The book, which is set to cause a stir in the study of religion and contemporary culture, draws on findings from a locality study of religious and spiritual activity in Kendal, Cumbria. ‘The Spiritual Revolution: Why Religion is Giving Way to Spirituality’ by Paul Heelas and Linda Woodhead will be published next week. The research, carried out by full-time researchers Ben Seel and Karin Tusting at the Institute for Environment, Philosophy & Public Policy, found that church attendance had been declining rapidly since the sixties. Meanwhile forms of alternative spirituality including Alexander technique, Buddhist groups, herbalism, reiki, tarot card reading and yoga have flourished in the last twenty years. Relating these findings to wider trends, the authors argue that changes in religious practice reflect a wider flight from deference and a concern with personal experience and growth. They also reveal a shift in which women come to play more prominent, active and leading roles in defining, channeling and interacting with 'the sacred', a role previously reserved for a male priesthood.
