Hi,
I'm Virato, Editor and Publisher of Asheville Magazine, your radio host of VIRATO LIVE! for the past 5 years, and now on non-commercial television  I've been in media for some 5 decades, and in these 50 years I've been a student of media, marketing and technology. I would like to share something with you about what's happening in the media today.

With exponentially expanding computer technology, desk top publishing is rampantly flourishing. It seems everyone is printing something on paper! ...and then selling advertising in it, either for themselves, or others...newspapers, magazines, directories, etc. We are witnessing a result that can only be called print advertising glut

It is near impossible to read all the printed-on-paper information coming to us.  In fact, large retailers in the Asheville, NC area such as Earth Fare and Greenlife, no longer have space for another publication!

Just count the number of ads in printed publications such as Asheville's Mountain Xpress, and countless other "throw-away," pollution creating publications in a community, and it's mind-boggling. It easy to see why many advertising messages  simply go unseen without impact. Bummer! ...and, at a few hundred bucks for the cost of a print ad, a SUPER BUMMER!

Ads seem to float in an endless sea of other ads...page after page. Your message is lost in an overwhelming plethora of ads, each competing for a reader's eyes...one after another, after another. Sure, people are placing print ads...they need the business! ...and they are being told by print ad salespeople that a print ad is what they need! ..and maybe a larger one.

Permissible Video/Audio Effects:
  • Logo, or slogans, still and/or animated, which identify, but DO NOT promote or endorse company or its products/services.
     
  • Company name and exterior location.
     
  • Non-commercial website. No specific products available for sale or "advertised" on specific URL mentioned.
     
  • One specific product line or brand name
     
  • Symbolic depiction of up to three (3) generic product lines, services or target markets, in addition to the one specific product or service. This product depiction is limited to 50% of credit time, or 5 seconds.
     
  • Street address or general location, but NO telephone numbers or "commercial" websites.

The next best way to announce your event is to let potentially interested people know about it over television, with a soothing voice...on a TV show they have tuned into... a show they enjoy, and by the host of the show himself. Viewers hear it as a special event announced by Virato... To meet the non-commercial requirements of our program, we provide you our telephone number, free of charge, to take your calls, and personally call you with the info.
