irato — former Fortune 500 corporate executive, magazine editor, world lecturer, shape shifter, practical psychotherapist, tantric master, and chronicler and "magnavox*" of the consciousness movement, is considered by many an icon and elder of the cultural creatives, and a communicator of the subtle yet radical paradigm shift.
Founder, editor and publisher of New Frontier Magazine (a recognized international journal of expanding consciousness established in 1981), Virato moved to Asheville, North Carolina, from Philadelphia in 1994, mystically drawn to America's spiritual mountains. Said to be the oldest on the planet.
In 1995 Virato hosted his own radio program,
New Frontier On The Air,
Saturdays on WSKY in Asheville,
NC...the last local consciousness program heard throughout
the Asheville mountains. It was then that Virato felt he should
"walk his talk," and in a vision decided to cease printing New
Frontier Magazine on paper, and went 100% cyber. Soon after,
WSKY was purchased by a fundamentalist coalition that
immediately terminated Virato's popular program ending
Virato's airborne rhetoric until January 2005.
He spent the next decade travelling, including many times to Russia
The Dance Continues...
On January 23, 2010 his radio program, VIRATO LIVE! entered its 6th year of broadcasting. However, on January 25, just two days after its 5th Anniversary, Clear Channel Communications, Inc., terminated VIRATO LIVE! Reasons given were economic, including the bankruptcy of Air America.. Although the Arbitron rating for his show was one of the highest in Asheville, with outstanding guests and shows, some say Virato is too controversial...especially to certain corporate and religious factions.
From April-July 2010 Virato hosted a weekly live, two hour, television program with the same name VIRATO LIVE! broadcasting to Charter Communications 157,000+ Asheville area subscribers and streamed online

He was also a dynamic radio talk show host in New York City and Philadelphia, dating back to the late 60s, as well as a popular mainstream talk show radio and TV guest.
In addition to New Frontier Magazine, in 1996 Virato co-published the monthly holistically oriented newspaper, Asheville ReSource, and served on the founding Board of Directors of Asheville's Chamber of Consciousness. In 2002-2003 he was also a columnist for Chattanooga's weekly entertainment newspaper, Chattanooga Outlook.

Virato's interviews and commentary are poignant, inspiring and penetrating--often humorous, and sometimes controversial. He dubs it his "Zen Shtick." He tells the truth and fears not banishment. Both light and enlightening, Virato reflects an uncanny depth of knowledge, and a uniquely wider perspective on an interesting variety of body, mind and soul subjects. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he has lived in Philadelphia, California, Tennessee, Maine, New Jersey, India and Russia, not that any of that matters. He now lives in the southern Appalachian mountains, in Asheville, North Carolina, where he shares gardening with, and experiencing the artwork of his beloved Dhiraja.
