Founder, editor and publisher of New Frontier Magazine (a recognized journal expanding human consciousness established in 1981), Virato moved to Asheville, North Carolina, from Philadelphia in 1994. He claims to have been mystically drawn to America's spiritual mountains. In 1995 Virato hosted his own radio program, New Frontier On The Air, Saturdays on WSKY in Asheville, NC...the last local consciousness program heard throughout the Asheville mountains. Soon after, WSKY was purchased by a fundamentalist coalition that immediately terminated Virato's popular program ending Virato's airborne rhetoric until January 2005. In 2004 Clear Channel Communications purchased Asheville's WPEK, and changed it to a "progressive station," 880AM The Revolution. Within the first year, Virato was again speaking to a thirsty audience. He immediately developed a loyal listenership.

Virato, with his captivating voice and insight, was also a dynamic radio talk show host in New York City and Philadelphia, dating back to the late 60s. In addition to New Frontier Magazine, in 1996 he co-published the monthly holistically oriented newspaper, Asheville Resource, and and served on the founding Board of Directors of Asheville's Chamber of Consciousness. In 2002-2003 he was also a columnist for Chattanooga's weekly newspaper, Chattanooga Outlook. Virato is currently editor and publisher of Asheville Magazine, an online journal exploring human consciousness. He also writes a regular column for Asheville's underground progressive paper Asheville Indie. Stories on Virato have appeared world-wide, and he has been a guest on over 500 radio stations in America and Europe, including Russia, where he has been delivering mind-expanding lectures for nearly two decades.
"...truly a master of media!"
Virato,
known by millions in many countries,
he has interviewed or dialogued with celebrities including author Deepak Chopra,
James Redfield (Celestine Prophecy), Neale Donald
Walsch (Conversations with God); John Robbins (Pulitzer nominated Sometimes seen as a controversial character, Virato's interviews and commentary are poignant, inspiring and penetrating--often humorous, and sometimes down right blunt. He dubs it his "Zen Shtick." Both light and enlightening, Virato reflects an uncanny depth of knowledge, and a uniquely wider perspective on an interesting variety of body, mind and soul subjects. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he has lived in Philadelphia, California, Tennessee, Maine, New Jersey, India and Russia, not that any of that matters. He now lives in Asheville, North Carolina, in the southern Appalachian mountains, where he speaks to the world from WPEK, 880 AM The Revolution in Asheville, NC, where he shares gardening with, and experiencing the artwork of his beloved Dhiraja.

loved by many, and certainly a legend in his own time...
