Medical Testing &
Nutritional Evaluation
At
Oasis Mountain we begin with with a medical examination and
nutritional appraisal that may disclose problems such as hypoglycemia or
high blood sugar, vitamin/mineral deficiencies, hypertension, chemical sensitivities and allergies.
These conditions may create or contribute to
an addictive behavior.
The Oasis
Mountain program includes herbs and nutritional supplements prescribed to
meet a participant's needs. These supplements may reduce a
participant's cravings and other
symptoms of chemical dependency. All food served participants is
also designed to serve this purpose.
Transformational
Methods
The highly-skilled professional counselors and therapists at
Oasis Mountain Wellness Center use
the most effective methods available today. Each participant works with several professionals over the course of
his or her stay.
Treatment is designed to empower
participants,
bringing them to a heightened state of awareness, allowing them to
independently and successfully handle obstacles as they may appear in social
and business situations.
Psychological
Awareness and Release Methods
An important part of the Oasis Mountain
program is an emphasis on simple techniques to let go of dysfunctional
behaviors that trigger the misuse of alcohol or other drugs.
Participants identify
these
behaviors and feelings, and learn techniques to minimize the effect of
stressful triggering experiences without the use of addictive substances.
Exercise, Yoga & Meditation
A healthy physical body is vitally important to achieve overall positive
results with our program. The
Oasis Mountain program includes regular hikes, and other daily exercise regimens. As weather allows, the program includes hikes among the
beauty and majesty of our renown mountains. We also offer swimming,
tennis and other movement methods, including use of a nearby golf course.
Individuals with a variety of
needs and abilities are accommodated so that everyone can participate at their
own level. In addition, Oasis Mountain participants engage in regularly scheduled
meditations, yoga
or Tai Chi, which provide simple stretching and toning exercises that can be
done by people of all ages and abilities. Included are active and
passive meditative techniques. These methods have been found to have a calming effect as well as re-energize the mind and body.
Acupressure (Shiatsu) & Acupuncture
The use of acupuncture and/or acupressure in a treatment framework have
been shown clinically to decrease cravings for
alcohol and other drugs, and may reduce any withdrawal symptoms.
Acupuncture is currently being used successfully at numerous drug treatment
centers in the United States.
Body Work
We consider body manipulation a vital component to release bodily toxins. Professionals in massage and
other body work methods are available to
Oasis Mountain participants to support the cleansing process on many
levels; for release, physical healing and toning, and for mental relaxation and rejuvenation.
Native American
Sweat Lodge
Led by a Native American Medicine Nan, some participants
may join in a
sweat lodge
ceremony which helps detoxify and cleanse the body, mind, and spirit.
After Care...
Oasis Mountain provides ongoing support through weekly
telephone consultations and electronic (Internet) meetings for those who have attended our program. Individuals participate in
conference calls, and/or Internet chats as part of a support
system. We also encourage participants to contact each other.
